No Fear On Wheels
Meet Stnky supported Athlete Shaun. Shaun is an Obstacle Course Racing Athlete who has qualified for the UK Championships. Oh and he is off up Kilimanjaro next year! Get ready to be inspired.
My first OCR event was Born Survivor, Lowther Castle Penrith, 4th April 2014 and I can honestly say it changed my life!
I have always been a positive guy and able to take on any challenge. But this was different it was the epitome of
TEAMWORK…… #FAMILY. I have gone from strength to strength, new wheelchair, new harness, new ambitions and new determination to conquer more OCR events and more obstacles.
OCR is not about being physically fit, its about being part of somethingwhich is indescribable until to take part.
Never think you can’t as crawling through mud, over walls and in water really brings the child out in you. You start
off clean and finish covered in mud and looking the same as everyone else.
I am very fortunate to have my rock (wife), Dawn, alongside me at every event and every challenge I set. From the first event the FAMILY has grown! The messages of support and inspiration from complete strangers has been humbling. I am just me and totally love the OCR community and events. At each event I learn something new about myself which allows me to train and strive to conquer another obstacle which any person my think twice about, especially when you are
paralysed from the chest.
Since my first event I have completed 6 events so far, I still have Born Survivor in Manchester Ram Run but as humbling as anything I have qualified as an ADAPTIVE ATHLETE for the UK CHAMPS in November at the Nuclear Races.WOW! I have made some life long friends, brothers and sisters and they know who they are! THANKS OCR has given me the drive and determination to push my boundaries further, completing more OCR’s; Sky dive and aiming for Kilimanjaro 2016….. along the way raising money for different charities…. Which is over £20,000 so far.
I have been asked by the OCR World Team Championship event RD’s to be there Disability Wheelchair Ambassador for their event in London September 2016…. Amazing. OCR is not about judgements, its about being part of a community who show how people support, encourage and help family, friends and strangers……… this is what its about #OCR #FAMILY #COMMUNITY #NOBARRIERS NO FEAR ON WHEELS!!!!!!
